Last night while we were reading the scriptures, we were in Luke 22 and my kids were asking about the Passover. We had a little discussion about it, and I got thinking back to that great old movie The Ten Commandments with Moses (Charlton Heston) and Pharoah (Yul Brynner).
What a great show, and I haven't seen it on TV for several years, I don't think my little ones have ever seen it! So Rick and I decided last night that for FHE this evening, we would get it on Netflix.
If you wanted, you could skip through to the part where he actually receives the 10 Commandments from God. We however, will be watching the whole thing over the next several nights.
Before we jump right into the movie, tonight we will have a little discussion about the Ten Commandments.
President
Thomas S. Monson, a modern-day prophet, has said: “Although the world
has changed, the laws of God remain constant. They have not changed;
they will not change. The Ten Commandments are just that—commandments.
They are not suggestions. They are every bit as requisite today as they
were when God gave them to the children of Israel."
Explain that although Satan often makes it look like fun to break the
commandments, all the choices we make have consequences. When people
follow Satan’s plan, at first it seems to give them more freedom. But as
they continue to make wrong choices, the consequences begin to bind
them. For example, if people lie and cheat, they are not worthy to be in
the presence of God. People who choose to keep the commandments may at
first feel restricted. But as they continue to make right choices, their
lives begin to open up to greater freedoms.
That's what we are doing tonight! Along with popcorn and left over Better Than Anything Cake from yesterday's Sunday treat! What else does a family need?
